Trees Can Burn from The Inside Out
Most people do not realize that forest fires mainly spread underground. Dead leaves and refuse on the forest floor can certainly help it spread, but most of the damage occurs in the roots. As the roots smolder, they spread to other trees. This can lead to entire trees burning from the inside out. It is rare to see one quite like this. This picture was captured by a firefighter in North Carolina.
