The Sandraks – Pavel and Lena
Both Pavel and Lena were born in a small town in Ukraine. Pavel was a highly recognized martial-arts champion who competed around the world. Pavel’s success in martial arts made had brought him many titles world-wide. Lena Sandrak also had some titles to her name – she was a competitive aerobics athlete. With genetics like these, there was no denying that their children would also pose their level of athletic greatness.

Moving to America
When Richard was 2-years old, the Sandraks uprooted their young family from their small Ukrainian village and moved to a town in Pennsylvania. Pavel believed that moving to the states would allow Richard to resume his training, and that there would be many more opportunities than in Ukraine. Once in the states, the senior Sandrak introduced the young boy to Taekwondo, weight, and aerobic training.
